6.4 Earthquake Jolts Assam, many buildings in Tezpur developed cracks

On Wednesday morning, people of Assam were jolted by a massive earthquake that took them unawares. The massive earthquake measured a magnitude of 6.4 and shook almost entire Northeast India. The earthquake began in Assam, and tremors were felt throughout the state, as well as in North Bengal and other parts of the Northeast.

The epicenter of the quake was Sonitpur, and it occurred at 7.51 a.m. at a depth of 17 kilometers, according to the report. There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.

They reported tremors felt throughout the region, including neighboring Meghalaya and northern West Bengal. They added that the quake struck Sonitpur district at 7.51 a.m.

It was followed by two more jerks with magnitudes of 4.3 and 4.4 at 7.58 and 8.01 a.m., respectively.

People fled their homes in most parts of the region as a result of the massive earthquake. Many buildings in Tezpur, Sonitpur’s district headquarters, Guwahati, and elsewhere developed cracks.
