PM Modi wrote on social media platform ‘X’, “Congratulations on your election as President of Botswana. Best wishes for a successful tenure.” Prime Minister Modi said that he is looking forward to working closely with Boko to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Before the final results came in Botswana, outgoing President Mokgweetsi Masisi had already conceded defeat. He called Duma Boko to congratulate him on the same day. Masisi had been in power since Botswana gained independence from Britain in 1966. With this defeat, his party’s 58-year-old rule has come to an end.
