While the time has come for Comet Neowise to say goodbye to our solar system, sky gazers should not be disappointed as Perseid meteor shower is making its way. It will be this year’s brightest meteor showers and will also grace the Indian night skies.
However, many parts of India may not have a clear view of the meteor shower as it clashing with a half-moon and because of the monsoon clouds.
Perseid meteor shower is caused by debris left behind the Comet Swift-Tuttle. The meteor count can go down from 60 per hour to 16-20 meteors per hour. Despite the moon’s brightness affecting the peak time to watch the stunning celestial show, one meteor which appears like a shooting star can be seen every two minutes.
Here’s when you can watch Perseid meteor shower in India:
Perseid meteor shower will peak on Tuesday (August 11) but will be visible throughout Wednesday and Thursday (August 11-12).
In India, the celestial event will be visible on two days- Tuesday and Wednesday. The visibility of meteors will be high in the night from 2 am to pre-dawn hours.
To catch a glimpse of the Perseid meteor shower, you must find a location which has a sky free of pollution and too much light.
If it is a clear sky, you don’t need any equipment to watch the beautiful meteor shower. It will be visible all over the sky at night and can be easily seen through the naked eye.
But if your view is blocked by clouds, you can watch the celestial show live on the Facebook page of Nasa Meteor Watch from around 6 am IST on Tuesday.
