Indian veteran wrestler Bajrang Punia has won a bronze medal in the World Wrestling Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia. This is his fourth overall medal in this prestigious championship, which is the highest among Indian wrestlers.
Tokyo Olympic medalist Bajrang registered a 11-9 win over Puerto Rico’s Sebastian C Rivera in the bronze medal bout in the 65kg category. He defeated Puerto Rico’s Sebastian C Rivera 11-9 in Belgrade, Serbia yesterday. This is Punia’s fourth medal in this championship, starting with a bronze medal in 2013.
Bajrang is the only Indian wrestler to have won four medals at the World Championships. Earlier, Bajrang had won bronze medals in 2013 and 2019, while in 2018 he won silver. He is followed by Vinesh Phogat, who has won two medals in this championship. Babita Kumari, Geeta Phogat, Pooja Dhanda, Anshu Malik, Alka Tomar and Sarita Mor are the other Indian women wrestlers to win medals in the history of the event.
