Nationalism gripped India on Friday as it celebrated 20th anniversary of Operation Vijay with the theme, ‘Remember, Rejoice and Renew’.
On this day in 1999 in Kargil , Indian defeated Pakistani soldiers from the peak of the Indian side.
During Operation Vijay, the Pakistani army’s treachery faced defeat by the Indian jawans.
Pakistani intruders who captured our mountains were wiped out by the Indian army after fighting out and bravely planted the Indian flag.
During the Kargil war, there was a heavy exchange of armed conflict between India and Pakistan. This war also marks the first time when India and Pak became nuclear powers and got into war.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and all the Service Chiefs visited the Drass sector to participate in the ceremony to honour the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country.

- In an emotional tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tribute to Kargil war heroes who fought for the country in 1999.
On the 20th anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan, Modi said the day should be remembered for the “courage, bravery and dedication” shown by our soldiers who were part of Operation Vijay.
During the Kargil War in 1999, I had the opportunity to go to Kargil and show solidarity with our brave soldiers.
This was the time when I was working for my Party in J&K as well as Himachal Pradesh.

He fondly posted pictures recounting those moments during the war. “I salute all the heroic sons of Mother India on Kargil Vijay Diwas. This day reminds us of the courage, bravery and dedication of our soldiers. On this occasion, my humble tribute to those mighty warriors, who favoured all in the defence of the motherland. Jai Hind!” PM tweeted.
