Ladakh celebrated its first Independence Day on Thursday with a lot of zeal and cheer after it a Union Territory after the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
Banners bearing slogans like “UT of Ladakh celebrates its 1st Independence Day” were hanging along roads of this picturesque town.
BJP MP Namgya, whose famous speech in the Lok Sabha became the talk of the nation after the abolition of special status to Jammu and Kashmir, had led the Independence Day celebration with fervour by dancing and playing the drums along with locals in the traditional Ladakhi style.

With a large gathering of the locals, joined by the BJP’s national general secretary Ram Madhav hoisted the national.
On August 5, the Centre stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status given under Article 370 and split it into two Union territories, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, which will come into existence on October 31.
The region has got “independence from Kashmir” and the celebration is “just a trailer” for the development of Ladakh, he said.

In his tweets, he said that Ladakh symbolises the patriotism of the people and their unwavering commitment towards India.
He took the Independence Day as an occasion to celebrate martyrdom of their four heroes who died while agitating for the UT status.
