UP: Muslim man attacked for reading Hindu Holy Scriptures

A 55-year old Muslim, who works as a security guard has alleged that he was attacked by members of his own community for reading Ramayana at his residence in Aligarh.

Dilshad said that he had been in the habit of reading Hindu scriptures since 1979. The people who attacked him threatened to shoot him if he continued reading the Hindu Holy Scriptures and also took away his Ramayana and Gita.

The incident was reported on Thursday, when two youths named Zakir and Samir forcefully entered Dilshad’s house, broke his harmonium and warned him of dire consequences if he continued reading the scriptures.

Dilshad, who works as a security guard, said: “I returned from duty and after taking a bath, I was preparing to read ‘Ram Charitra Manas’ when these youths came and attacked me.”

He also said that reading the Holy Scriptures gives him mental peace but he faces protests from his own community from time to time.

Police officials in Aligarh have registered the case on the basis of his complaint, the cops have registered a case against Zakir, Samir and some unidentified persons at Delhi Gate police station under Sections 298, 323, 452, 504 and 506 of the IPC.
