PM Modi chairs emergency meeting to review COVID situation in the country

PM Modi convened a meeting to review the measures put in place in response to the surge in COVID-19 cases that has surged in the country and its healthcare system.

According to sources, PM Modi will review the allocation of human resources, as well as the availability of oxygen and medicines, at a meeting attended by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, the Health Secretary, and other officials.

The meeting comes amid reports that healthcare workers are feeling overburdened in some parts of the country as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, with testing facilities also being overburdened.

A doctor was among 12 people who died on Saturday at Delhi’s Batra Hospital after the facility ran out of medical oxygen for the second time in a week. Separately, a resident doctor at a private hospital in the capital committed suicide as a result of extreme stress. In India, the second COVID-19 wave has overwhelmed hospitals, morgues, and crematoriums, leaving families scrambling for scarce medicines and oxygen. While India is the world’s largest producer of COVID-19 vaccines, shortages in some states have stymied the start of a mass vaccination campaign.
