India’s scintillating performance continued on the seventh day of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games yesterday. Paralifter Sudhir won the gold medal by lifting 212 kg in the men’s heavyweight finals in weightlifting. This is the first gold medal for India in the Commonwealth Games Paralifting. In the long jump, Murali Sri Shankar created history by jumping eight decimal zero eight meters and won India a silver medal.
This is the first medal by an Indian male player in this event in the history of the Commonwealth Games. Yesterday, Indian boxers also ensured four medals for India by hitting their opponents with strong punches. Among the men, Amit Panghal, Sagar Ahlawat, and Rohit Tokas made it to the semi-finals while in the women’s Jasmine. In all, seven Indian boxers have reached the semi-finals of their respective events so far. In athletics, Hima Das has also reached the semi-finals of the women’s 200m race, while Manju Bala is in the final of the hammer-throw event.
India is at the seventh position in the Commonwealth Games with a total of 20 medals with six gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals.
