Riots broke out in several French cities last night after Argentina lost the World Cup final. Thousands of football fans took to the streets in Paris, Nice and Lyon following the defeat.
Videos posted on social media showed huge commotion and chaos in the streets. Clashes between fans and police were witnessed on the famous Champs-Elysees in the French capital. Police fired tear gas to disperse the football fans.
According to reports, the police had to take action against the fans in Paris’ famous Champs-Elysées. It is being said that people have also committed arson here. More than 14,000 policemen have been deployed to ensure security across France on Sunday.
Similar riot-related incidents have been reported in several countries in Europe in recent weeks following defeats in FIFA World Cup matches. Violence broke out in Morocco after the semi-final defeat. At the same time, the scene was quite different outside the Argentine embassy in the capital, Paris. Dozens of Argentine fans came here to celebrate the victory.
