US President Joe Biden has declared a state of emergency due to the severe snow storm. In a statement issued from the White House, the President has said that all federal assistance should be made available to New York State in view of the emergency.
Earlier reports said that a total of 50 people have died from the blizzard in the states of Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Wisconsin. Buffalo, located in the northeast of New York State, has killed the most people within a week. More than a meter of snow has fallen there. Snow storms from Canada to the Mexico border killed 56 people.
Hundreds of flights have been canceled due to severe snow storm and below zero temperature. Various types of vehicles are congested on the roads making it difficult to clear snow from the roads and even emergency services are not adequate.
